Oprah tweets to 16 million about her delicious Calgary chocolates.
Cococo's "Amaaazing Chocolates" delight the media icon after the show
When Cococo Chocolatiers, a big supporter of Youville Recovery Residence for Women, arranged for 12 women - all hardworking volunteers and supporters of Youville - to attend Oprah's show as Cococo's guests, no one could have predicted it would lead to a shout out by the iconic superstar. Event organizers who are also friends of Youville knew about Cococo's plans to play host for the local charity, and invited Cococo exclusively to provide chocolates for both Oprah's hotel room and green room. The company responded happily.
Wanting to showcase the best that Calgary has to offer, Maitre Chocolatier Derrick Tu Tan Pho created a beautiful chocolate sculpture for Oprah, complete with an inspirational quotation from Marcel Proust: "Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom." Oprah also received a selection of products - all of which are new products created by Cococo during this past year.
After the show, Oprah let her 16 million Twitter followers know that someone "left some amaaazing chocolates in my green room."
"Oprah's Triple-A 'amaaazing' tweet was a fun surprise for our team," said Brian Beck, President of Cococo Chocolatiers and a long time Youville volunteer himself. "We were working quietly with Youville and gave chocolate gifts without making any noise about it, and now this. It was really very generous of Oprah to comment."
"And there was obviously a lot of serendipity at work, too," added Beck. "Earlier yesterday I was at The Calgary Herald where Youville - one of The Herald's Christmas Fund charities - learned the Christmas Fund had raised over $1.4 million for local charities, the second-biggest total ever. I was lucky enough at that event to meet Sam Switzer, who donated $250,000 to the Christmas Fund this year and who is a great Youville supporter. I thanked him. Then that same night he was in the front row at the Saddledome where Oprah, who had just met Sam, talked to him by name repeatedly. Meanwhile his daughter was watching the fun as one of Cococo's guests as our 'thank you' to her and Sam. And now Oprah tweets about us. That's got to be proof that what goes around comes around in Calgary."
Inspired by Oprah's message, Cococo Chocolatiers remains committed to giving back and supporting local charities. Cococo is the company that purchased Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut in 2010.
